working to make an even better Manthorpe

Work begins on QE Play Area

We have received the following information from David Price of SKDC

“I can confirm that despite the terrible weather the contractors started work [on the QE Play Area] on the 4th January and appear to be making good progress. As agreed the access down the foot path has been split to separate pedestrians from construction vehicles and some minor trimming of branches overgrowing the footpath has been carried out.

"Some elements of construction will have to wait for the weather to warm up and of course we all hope this will happen soon!

“Mindful of your wishes to have some attraction for younger children I am exploring with the contractors the shaping of the large logs to represent animal shapes, similar to those that are so popular with young children on the horse jumping circuit at Belton Park. If this is feasible they will probably be located near the entrance to the thicket area off the maze.”

Photos of the progress on the play area taken on 23rd January. We understand  that the official opening is likely to be on 8th or 9th February. (Postponed because of the bad weather)
