District Council Issues

These notes are a response from SKDC to specific concerns raised by MantRA in April 2010.

QUESTION The state of some of the grass verges do not seem to have been cut and sometimes are left to get quite high. A number of trees in the verges and open spaces have branches sticking out causing potential danger in terms of catching people in the face or trip hazards.

RESPONSE The verges are cut for Lincolnshire County Council as per their contract with South Kesteven District Council; this equates to 7 times during the growing season. The trees on the verges are the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council.

If you can advise me which open space & location of the tree/trees that are causing a potential danger in terms of catching people in the face or trip hazards, I will arrange for an inspection of these trees & take action as appropriate.

QUESTION The grey post office storage boxes installed in the verges are in need of repair and painting

RESPONSE As verges are the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council, you will need to direct this enquiry to them or directly to the post office.

QUESTION Running Furrows which connects the estate to Grantham Road, Gonerby Hill Foot (running along the railway line) is in a poor state of repair. We are led to believe that the District Council constructed this cyclepath and is therefore responsible for the maintenance. There also seems to be a build-up of litter along this track and the track also needs maintenance in terms of cutting back foliage and overgrown grass at the edges.

RESPONSE I will forward your letter to our legal section & the project officer involved at the time the cycle path was constructed to establish what grass cutting/shrub maintenance arrangements were put in place when this cycle path was constructed & Street Scene regarding litter picking this track/link path/cycle way.

QUESTION Our residents have a concern relating to the amount of people parking on grass verges. We have been told that a local bylaw exists in respect to this problem and would only need enforcing, could you advise accordingly on what action you can take on this matter.

RESPONSE I will forward your letter to our legal section to reply to you regarding the current situation on bylaws.

QUESTION A large amount of litter is generated in the Rushcliffe Road area mainly due to the secondary school children. Would it be possible to have an additional litterbin installed either at the junction of Sandcliffe/Rushcliffe Road or next to the bus stop east of Highcliffe Road as you go towards Manthorpe Road. Whilst there is an existing litterbin located at the shop on Rushcliffe Road, this is very often full and overflowing.

RESPONSE I will forward your letter to Street Scene regarding this request for them to contact you directly
